Pimples and breakouts are the worse.

Natural d.i.y. acne masks are my favorite way to treat adult acne and scarring
So is rocking rough skin.
What if I told you that there is a simple mixture of two all natural ingredients that I apply onto my face every week to help soften and cleanse it?
In case you didn’t already know, I am a big advocate of all things Holistic and Ayurvedic. Meaning, I’m obsessed with anything that is made up of natural ingredients. I’ve also suffered from acne since my early teen years up until now so I totally have had my share of feeling frustrated about my skin. Check out my personal acne story here for more on my experience with battling with hormonal acne and what lead me to treating it naturally.
Well, what if I told you that sea salt and warm water is all you need for this light cleansing face mask?

Pink Himalayan Sea Salt is the best salt sea salt to use for acne prone skin
Mixing these two ingredients and letting it saturate on my face for about fifteen minutes makes my skin feel super baby butt soft and supple.
Don’t believe me?
Think about how supple and refreshed your skin feels after a trip to the beach.
The salt from the sea water was doing its magic and you didn’t even know it.
Here are five benefits just from sea salt alone:
- Sea Salt removes and reduces bacteria (I personally use Pink Himalayan Sea Salt because of all of the nutrients in it)
- Sea Salt has 84 minerals and trace elements including calcium, magnesium, potassium, copper and iron
- Sea Salt dries up the oils on the skin (be sure to moisturize after washing off your sea salt mask)
- Balances oil production
- Cleanses your pores and removes dirt and build up
Here’s what you do:
- Boil a small amount of water. About ½ a cup.
- Put the hot water aside and let it cool for a couple of minutes.
- Get some sea salt (about a teaspoon amount) and pour it into a bowl or a small container that can take some heat.
- Pour the warm water in salt. The salt dissipates but you can mix it if you want.
- So now you have a small amount of warm salt water. Take a cotton ball and dip it in the sea salt water.
- Rub and apply it to your freshly washed skin.
- Leave the sea salt-water face mask on for at least fifteen minutes.
I like to leave mine on for 20-30 minutes while I do some chores in the house. I have very oily skin so that is why I leave it on for so long but if you have fairly dry skin you can leave it on for a shorter amount of time.
Remember, the sea salt does dry up the oils in your skin. So if you leave the mask on longer than needed for your skin type, it can work against you. If you forget to moisturize after, your skin will try to produce more oil to compensate for your super dry skin, which can lead to more breakouts. So please keep this in mind and be sure to moisturize your skin after rinsing off your sea salt mask.
This d.i.y. sea salt mask is light and weightless and you can easily forget you have it on because it’s almost unnoticeable. I love that I can smell the sea salt wafting from my face as I’m walking around the house. It reminds me of my lazy days spent at the beach (when I used to live just minutes away from the ocean) with my toes in the sand, basking under the sun. Just the smell alone is a form of aromatherapy for me which mentally sends me off to a secluded island of serenity every time I’m wearing it. Of course, I am brought back to reality once I feel the gentle tugging of my shirt from Little One as she requests for another diaper change because she made a “poopy”.

This affordable, do-it-yourself sea salt mask will have your skin feeling like you just spent the day at the beach
After I wash off the sea salt mask with warm water, I pat my face dry with a clean towel and immediately moisturize my skin. I use hemp seed oil as a natural moisturizer, which has a comedogenic rating of 0. I will be sharing more about this miraculous oil that is most beneficial for acne sufferers, in a future post.
Is Sea Salt An Acne Cure?
This Pink Himalayan Sea Salt face mask is a budget friendly and affordable way to treat and prevent problem skin. Is it an acne cure? Probably not. I heard it helps in clearing acne but honestly, acne is an internal systemic inflammatory reaction. Although cleaning the top of the skin is a great way to treat acne, it’s not a cure for most people.
Every one has different types of breakouts. Some are superficial like white heads and pustules. Some are sub-dermal like nodular breakouts. This face mask will not help with nodular acne. Nodular acne has a deeper cause and can only be solved from within. If you suffer from nodular acne and are reading this, don’t feel down. I’ve had nodular acne long enough to find out what causes it and prevents it. And I get it, having this type of breakout is not fun. It can be debilitating, depressing, and down right stressful. But I will be talking more about nodular acne and what worked for me in the future so please stick around.
What this face mask is great for is balancing and improving topical skin quality, purging out white heads by eliminating bacteria on the skin, and cleansing your pores. So if your acne and buildup is mostly on the surface of your skin then this sea salt face mask may very well do the trick for you.
Sea Salt And Acne Scarring
A day after the first time I did the sea salt face mask, I got a compliment on how smooth my skin looked. I was in shock; I never heard a compliment like that before because I always had problematic acne prone skin. After suffering from acne break outs for most of my life and battling with adult hormonal acne, even when my skin was clear, I still had severe acne scarring. For some reason I feel like the face mask reduces the appearance of acne scarring. After doing some research online, it does appear that others have come across the same results as well. I try to wear this mask at least one day before any big event that I will be attending in person, so that I can soften my acne scars. This is a great way to prepare my scarred skin before wearing makeup to produce an even and near flawless look.
Self-Esteem With Acne
This natural do-it-yourself acne face mask is a fast, easy, simple and affordable way to treat pimples and get smoother skin overnight.
Just remember, true beauty is from within. Whether or not you get the results you are looking for from this sea salt face mask does not matter if you still continue to allow yourself to feel badly about your skin. You’ve got to promise to love yourself regardless of the things you cannot change.
If you suffer from adult hormonal acne, you know how bad it can make you feel. You can battle with feelings of insecurity, depression, anxiety, sadness and even bouts of anger because of your breakouts. I get it. You have got to love yourself time and time again without fail.
Because acne doesn’t make you ugly. Your attitude towards your break outs does. Everyone has their own issues, their own problems. You are not the only one on this earth who is suffering through something. So please, be thankful for your blessings and focus on the good things provided to your from The Big Man Upstairs. There is so much more to life than being miserable every single day about something that we cannot change on our time.
Trust me, no one is perfect.

Just give the video a good watch, your perspective on your skin will change! I even record the video with a few of my very own breakouts taking the stage. And I’m okay with that.
